St Patrick Cross Necklace
Our St Patrick Cross Necklace is a replica of the original carved Celtic cross believed to be one of the oldest existing crosses. Each Cross is a miniature work of art and is an authentic copy, back and front, of the East and West face of the original cross. This magnificent cross, also known as the Cross of St. Patrick , can be seen in Carndonagh, Donegal's northwestern corner. Carndonagh was originally a bishopric, thought to have been founded by St. Patrick himself. The ancient Celtic cross of St. Patrick Carndonagh is faithfully captured in this beautiful Celtic St Patrick Cross Necklace, which is handcrafted in sterling silver.
The HIgh Cross of St. Patrick
Since this cross lacks the ring that we associate with Celtic crosses, it was assumed that it was built in the seventh or eighth centuries. The quality of the sculpture, according to scholars, dates the cross to the 9th or 10th century. Its elaborate interlace patterns are reminiscent of the design seen on the pages of an Irish psalter from the late 10th century. The Crucifixion is claimed to be depicted on the west face's shaft, but some believe it depicts Christ in glory with his arms lifted in blessing. The cross was a symbol of victory over sin and death in the early Church historian suggests.
